Our parish religious education program (also known as "C.C.D.") serves many children and adults. Below is a brief
overview of the program for children and an introduction to the Rite of
Christian Initiation for Adults. Please call the
parish office for
more information.
AN OVERVIEW OF THE VARIOUS PROGRAMS
Religious Education Classes are available for children
six years old and/or in grade one, through high school.
The Rite
of Christian Initiation for Adults (R.C.I.A.)is for those who are not Roman Catholic
and who
now seek entrance into the Catholic Church; it is also for baptized Catholics who have not been
raised in the faith or for those who simply wish to learn more about their faith.
See further explanation to the right.
Adult Faith Formation Programs (such as Bible
studies, etc.) are open to anyone who is interested in learning more about their
faith.
PRAYER AND STORY CLASS For six year olds and those in the first grade
PRE-SACRAMENT CLASS This is the first year of preparation for First Communion.
for those who are seven years old or older and in at least the second grade
FIRST COMMUNION CLASS The final year of preparation for First Communion. The First Communion class is open only to those who have completed the Pre-Sacrament Class.
POST SACRAMENT CLASS This is for those who have received First Communion,
but are not old enough for Pre-Confirmation Class.
PRE-CONFIRMATION CLASS This is the first year of preparation for Confirmation.
It is open to those who are eleven years old or older,
and to those who have completed three years of religious education classes.
CONFIRMATION CLASS This is the final year of preparation for Confirmation. The Confirmation class is open only to those who have completed the Pre-Confirmation class.
RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS (R.C.I.A.) The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (R.C.I.A.) is for those sixteen years of age or older who have not completed the Sacraments
of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist). It is also for those adults who want
to learn more about the Catholic faith, or who simply wish to renew their faith.
The R.C.I.A. follows a process marked by different liturgical rites by which
the “catechumens” (those hoping to be fully initiated into the church) are
guided and gradually introduced to the Roman Catholic way of life.
